Steve's Mk1 Mexico Cosworth

Here are some photos of Steve's Mk1 Mexico project which he will complete over the winter ready for next summer.

As you can see from the photos the Mk1 has a Sierra Cosworth engine fitted which has been superbly detailed and this is mated to a Cosworth T5 gearbox driving a 3 litre Capri Atlas with a Quaiffe ATB diff. A standard cosworth intercooler is fitted above a bespoke radiator. Brakes are cosworth items all round and suspension is the obligatory Bilstien branded stuff with the front struts having been converted to adjustable 2.25" coilovers with roller tops. The front anti roll bar set up has been ditched in favour of a compression strut set up whilst the rear has been treated to anti tramp bars and a panard rod.

The body shell was sand blasted in the early stages of the project to ensure a sound base for the restoration. Following this the shell was seam welded for strength and steel rear bubble arches were fitted. Additionally a Sierra gearbox tunnel was fitted. Prepfab undertook the fitting of the rear turrets and also the compression strut chassis brackets.

Paintwork is by LW Smart Repairs in Alfreton. Shown in the first couple of photos is Steve himself supervising Nud finishing the fitment of the Mexico stripes on the drivers side (a task I didn't envy him doing!).

Inside the car will run a full interior (Steve's keen to use the car with the family) and may even be fitted with a Recaro Baby seat in the rear to match the front seats!
