31/5/2001 - Even More Welding

During the past month the inner wings have been finished by dressing the welding on the outer face and applying a skim of filler. A temporary coat of primer out of a spray can has been added to cover the bare metal.

The bulkhead sides have also been restored with plates being applied where needed and the welding dressed and coated with seam sealer. On the drivers side this area had already been plated but the weld was suspect so this was ground out and redone.

The sills on the passenger side have been cut out and new panels fitted- these being welded inside and out for strength and the passenger side footwells have been renovated where necessary. The edge of the outer sill was joggled prior to fitting to minimise the amout of filler required to smooth over the surface.

Inside the passenger side rear wheel arch there were a couple of holes so these have been plated up.

A number of different ways/attempts at removing the underseal from inside the arches and underneath the car have been tried including sandblasting, scrapping with screwdriver and finally using a strong degreaser. This is about 50% complete. The areas tackled so far have been solid and the chassis in particular, having been protected by a really thick coat of waxoyl, is fantastic for the car's age.
