Leigh's Mk1 RS2000 Cosworth

This is Leigh's Mk1 Escort RS2000 which is just starting to be fitted up following slight bodywork restoration and a stunning white paintjob. The arrow straight bodywork is a testament to Leigh's skill in his profession as owner of L W Smart Repairs in Alfreton, Derbyshire.

The body is as clean underneath as it is on top and has been strengthened, seam welded and gusseted in readiness for fitting a 2.1 litre Cosworth Turbo engine mated to a T5 gearbox pushing the power to a narrowed Atlas axle kept in position with a panard rod. The car has been turreted in a way which will allow the rear seat still to be fitted and externally the car will look like a standard RS2000 with the obligatory blue RS stripes. I suspect they'll be some suprises when Leigh pulls away from the lights though!
